<description>Hi Sham, thanks for this useful list of tools as an illustration, IDS used Wordle to illustrate the front of our annual report last year.

Entitled &quot;Knowledge from All&quot; the idea was to create the annual report using a wiki - unfortuantely it didn&#039;t work and we had to resort to traditional means.

The content is interesting and the front cover looks great. Check it out at:

		<description>Dear Dr Pujar

You have given us valuable inputs for monitoring and evaluating library services. I always wonder whether the advncements in our library services actually feel the pulses of users or not. I will definitely try to use Google Analytics to identify and optimise usage of our OPAC.

Regards

<description>It reminds me here an event recently organised at AIRC, Mumbai . &quot;...if the product is well designed as per the customers taste you need not have to bother on marketing your product. On your behalf end user will market and promote your product....&quot; very well said.</description>

		<description>Dear Dr. Pujar,

Yes, as you have rightly pointed out, digital preservation has become crucial to libraries although most libraries in India are not particularly concerned about this aspect. As of now libraries in India seem to be satisfied with digitization, storage and dissemination of information. Digital preservation for posterity has not been high up on the agenda of libraries although there are concerted efforts by national bodies, especially archival and archaeological institutions in this area.

On November 7, 2008, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and Department of Information Technology, Government of India organised a one day workshop on Digital Preservation in India. A number of experts discussed case studies, challenges, technologies, sustainability, legal and regulatory framework with regard to digital preservation in India. Experts included senior government officials, policy makers, corporate players including Microsoft, Sun Microsystems, IBM, academicians and so on. Goes to show that India is very serious and is putting up systems, policies and procedures in place to hasten digital preservation activities in India.

		<description>Dear Dr Pujar

I am really felt delighted to see your blog. In fact, after the start of the refresher course, today is the first day when I am able to browse my mail (is not it very strange?). Anyway, I wish to know certain things about the post Challenges of Digital preservation.

1. How the British Library retain its master copy? I am asking this question as I have been told that it is always better to keep the master copy in tiff which is not going to be used by the users and produce other copies in pdf. Also, does the library think about microfilming also or it has done so already?

2. How about the copyright issues? I wish to know whether the Library is digitising only those books publised in Great Britain or it has taken few books published outside also?

3. We have a plan to digitise certain old documents housed in our Library many of which are published in England in the 19th century. What type of permission does it require to do so?

With regards
